The $187 million, 90-hectare Surf Lakes tourist attraction will include a skate park, renewable energy facility, tourist park and short-term accommodation with cabins and camping sites.
Working with sports innovation agency (Kinlab), and renowned architectural firm (NBRS), Surf Lakes Capricorn Coast (SLCC) has curated an immersive surf retreat “designed to allow surfers to thrive and guests to unwind”.
At the heart of the development will be a commercially upgraded Surf Lake. The upgraded machine will provide a significant improvement in wave size (up to 2.6-metres face height) and length (up to 15-second rides), creating a playground of lefts, rights, reforms, and slabs for all ability levels. While benefitting from an aesthetic overhaul, the machine will also be much quieter than the prototype, with the ability to run on renewable electricity.
